Hand-printed upcycled fabric, invasive Burmese python bones, embroidery thread
24” diameter x 1.5”
Humanity’s all-consuming desire for more leads to absurdities like the exotic pet trade and its consequences in South Florida: the Burmese Python, an invasive species, became an apex predator in the Everglades, reproducing endlessly and consuming so much that mammals are eradicated from huge swaths of the wetlands. My EVERGLADES OSSUARY project, comprised of sculptural tapestries adorned with python bones, honors these wild, powerful beings who bear no blame for their instinctual behavior. The pieces confront us with the soul-starvation that afflicts modern humans, and our destructive attempts to fill the void within.
